×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û websites and web applications must have a robust hosting environment in order to be safe and reliable resources for the ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û community.

Web hosting guidelines

Enterprise Technology & Services strongly encourages all ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û-related websites to either be hosted on ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û servers or to use the mySites Personal Website Service. 

  • ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û-branded sites are strongly encouraged to be part of the ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û Drupal environment.
  • Official ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û websites should not be hosted on third-party services.
  • Non-Drupal sites may be hosted at ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û if they follow the standard for standalone sites.
  • Sponsored research sites may be hosted through the Research Computing Center.
  • Anyone choosing to set up a server at ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û must comply with all as defined by ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û ET&S Software Development. This includes having a clearly designated individual who is responsible for the server infrastructure and hosting environment.

Lab and research website hosting

Research and laboratory websites serve as tools for publishing, sharing and collecting research information related to work being done at ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û. The audience for these sites is the ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û community, affiliated researchers and institutions, scientific communities and the general public.

Individual research or laboratories

If a website represents an individual's research or laboratory, then that website should be hosted at or . Websites can have multiple ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û site editors for easier upkeep. Ongoing training is available for WordPress, and self service support for Domain of One's Own is available through the . Researchers that require websites representing multiple institute research groups or consortiums can from the Research Computing Center.

University System research center or laboratory

If the website represents the work of a recognized research center or laboratory that will continue to exist regardless of the presence of any individual, then that website should be part of the appropriate entity’s website (e.g. college) to which it belongs. Special data representation needs

Special data handling, such as data management, gathering, or visualization can be supported by the Research Computing Center (RCC). To request a research website with special data representation needs, please contact RCC.

Security

Website owners, managers of any websites, and staff administering servers are responsible for responding to any reports of security issues or vulnerabilities or discovery of security breaches on their sites. Any security concerns should be reported promptly by contacting the ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û IT Service Desk.

Training

Responsibility for digital content

College and school websites are maintained by members of the university community acting as official representatives of ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û. Site owners and editors are responsible for complying with all relevant laws, ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û policies and this standard.

Violations

×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û ET&S Software Development reserves the right to remove a website or application from a ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û server if it is considered to have violated this standard or any other ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û policies or standards or if it is determined to pose a clear and present danger to the university system, its information, or its information technology resources.

Servers that are not being managed in accordance with ET&S guidelines and security standards may be blocked from accessing the ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û network.

If inappropriate or inaccurate server usage is reported, ET&S will contact the site owner to discuss the issue. Unacceptable responses may cause ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û website, web tool, or server access to be suspended. If the site or content owner cannot be contacted or is no longer at ×î¿ì¿ª½±Ö±²¥½ÁÖé½á¹û, that site will be administered ET&S and may be removed.
